A certified panel is an assembly, and its certificate covers the whole build rather than the box it lives in — which is why a panel cannot be certified after the fact by putting ordinary components into a certified enclosure. The route is decided early and it changes the cost. Purge and pressurisation, Ex p, keeps a protective gas pressure inside so standard industrial components may be used, and it buys flexibility at the price of a permanent instrument air or nitrogen supply and a control unit that shuts the panel down if pressure is lost. Increased safety, Ex e, uses certified components throughout and needs no utilities but constrains what may go inside and how hot it may run. Flameproof Ex d contains the event and tends to be heavy and expensive at panel size. Heat is the constraint people underestimate in all three, because a sealed certified panel in Gulf sun has very few ways to shed the watts inside it.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.

|---|---|
| Gas group and temperature class | IIA, IIB or IIC, and T1 to T6 |
| Ambient temperature range | State the site's, including direct sun on the panel |

| Purge supply | For Ex p: instrument air or nitrogen, pressure and availability |
| Internal heat load | Watts dissipated inside — the hardest constraint in a sealed panel |
| Cooling method | Vortex cooler, Ex air conditioner, or sun shield |
| Function | Motor control, instrument marshalling, control or distribution |
| Components inside | Starters, PLC, HMI, isolators — and what each dissipates |
| Enclosure material | 316 stainless or GRP where corrosion exposure is high |
| Cable entries | Number, size and thread, with certified glands |
| Certification scheme | IECEx, ATEX, or another accepted by your specification |
| Documentation | Assembly certificate, drawings and the marking plate details |
