An AED is not a purchase, it is a five-to-eight year commitment, and the enquiries that go wrong are the ones that price only the unit. Pads and batteries expire on fixed dates whether or not the device is ever used, and a unit whose pads lapsed two years ago fails at the only moment it matters while still showing a green ready light to anyone who does not look closely. The second thing to settle is where it lives. A cabinet in an unconditioned yard or on a jetty sees ambient temperatures well outside the operating range printed on most devices, so either the cabinet is climate-controlled or the mounting point moves indoors. State the environment, the population it must cover, and whether your procedure requires semi-automatic units that prompt a rescuer to press the shock button or fully automatic ones that deliver it themselves.
