Nothing in a hazardous area can be quoted from a description alone, because the certificate is the product. Four pieces of information define what may be installed and they have to arrive together: the zone, which says how often an explosive atmosphere is present; the gas group, which says how easily that atmosphere ignites, with IIC hydrogen and acetylene the most demanding; the temperature class, which caps the surface temperature the equipment may reach; and the ambient, which matters more here than in most markets because a certificate is issued for a stated ambient range and a Gulf summer can sit outside a standard one. Then the protection concept. Flameproof Ex d contains an internal explosion and cools the escaping gases through a certified flamepath, which is why the joints and fastenings are part of the certification and why drilling an extra entry into an Ex d box voids it. Increased safety Ex e prevents arcs and sparks arising at all.
