    Flexible Couplings

Sourced and supplied across Saudi Arabia

A flexible coupling tolerates misalignment; it does not correct it. That distinction is worth stating because a coupling fitted to a badly aligned machine transmits the resulting load straight into the bearings and seals at each end, and the coupling element is usually the last thing to fail rather than the first. So the alignment is still done, and the coupling is chosen for what remains after it. Torque is the second half, and it is not the driver's rating alone: a service factor is applied for the character of the load, so a compressor or a crusher needs a substantially larger coupling than a fan of the same power. Two practical points. A spacer coupling with a specified distance between shaft ends is what lets a pump seal be changed without moving the motor, and that dimension is fixed at design. And where the driven machine must be protected, an element that fails predictably is better than one that transmits everything until the shaft breaks.

What to state in your enquiry

The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.

Transmitted power and speedDriver rating and RPM at the coupling
Service factorSet by the character of the load and the starts per hour
Driven machinePump, fan, compressor, crusher, conveyor or gearbox
Shaft diametersBoth shafts, with keyway sizes, and any taper
Distance between shaft endsFixes the spacer length — needed for seal removal on pumps
Residual misalignmentAngular, parallel and axial, after alignment is done
Coupling typeElastomeric jaw, tyre, grid, gear, or metallic disc
Torsional behaviourState if a soft element is needed to damp torsional pulses
Overload protectionState if a shear or slip element is required
Operating temperatureElastomeric elements have real temperature limits
Hazardous areaState the zone if a non-sparking construction is required
StandardState if ISO 14691 or API 671 is called for by the specification
