    Hydraulic Cylinders

Sourced and supplied across Saudi Arabia

Four dimensions describe a cylinder — bore, rod diameter, stroke and closed length — and the one people leave out is closed length, which is what decides whether the replacement physically fits between the pins. Bore and pressure give the push force; the rod reduces the area on the return, so the pull force is always lower, and a cylinder chosen on push alone can be short on the retract stroke where the real work sometimes happens. Rod diameter is not only about tension either: on a long stroke the extended rod is a column under compression and can buckle, which is why a long-stroke cylinder needs a rod sized for stability rather than for load. Then the mounting, because a cylinder that has to swing needs a pivot arrangement and one that is rigidly mounted must not be asked to take side load. For a repair, say whether you want a new cylinder or the seal kit and a rod.

What to state in your enquiry

The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.

Bore diameterWith working pressure, this gives the push force
Rod diameterSets the pull force and the buckling resistance on long strokes
    StrokeWorking stroke required
Closed lengthPin to pin retracted — this is what decides whether it fits
Working pressureSystem pressure and the relief setting
MountingClevis, trunnion, flange or foot, with the pin diameters
Duty and speedCycles per hour, and the extend and retract speeds
CushioningEnd cushioning where the cylinder reaches the stops at speed
Rod finishHard chrome, or a coating for coastal or abrasive environments
Seal materialMatched to the fluid and the operating temperature
