316L is the default marine stainless because the added molybdenum resists chloride pitting far better than 304, and the low-carbon "L" variant avoids the sensitisation that would otherwise crack the heat-affected zone after welding — for any fabricated marine part, ask for 316L rather than 316 unless the item will never be welded. Sheet is bought by finish as much as by grade: 2B mill finish for structural or hidden work, No. 4 brushed for visible fittings, and BA (bright annealed) where a mirror-like corrosion-resistant surface is required. State the intended fabrication so the temper and finish match, and confirm whether passivation after fabrication is expected, since welding burns the passive layer locally.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
