A bank is the installed system rather than the cells in it, and what is being bought is a string design, a structure to hold it and a room that can safely contain it. Three things have to be settled together. The DC bus voltage and the cell chemistry fix the number of blocks in series; the autonomy and the discharge current fix how many strings sit in parallel, and parallel strings need equal-length interconnections or the current will not share. The rack or cabinet then has to carry a mass most people underestimate — a modest standby bank runs to several hundred kilograms — and be arranged so a technician can reach every terminal to torque and test it. And the room is part of the scope: charging evolves hydrogen, so ventilation is calculated rather than assumed, and IEC 62485-2 is the document that sets out how.
