Two numbers describe a grease and neither is the brand. The NLGI number is consistency — how stiff it is — and grade 2 is the general-purpose choice, with softer grades used where grease must be pumped through long central lubrication lines. The base oil viscosity is the one that actually does the lubricating, and it is chosen from the bearing speed and the operating temperature: a slow, heavily loaded bearing wants a heavy base oil, and a fast one wants a light oil regardless of how stiff the grease feels. The thickener is the third property and it is where an expensive mistake hides. Thickener types are not always compatible, and topping up a lithium-thickened bearing with a polyurea grease can produce a mixture that softens and runs out, or hardens and stops flowing, so the bearing fails for a reason nobody connects to the greasing. State what is already in the bearing.
