    Silicone Sealants

Sourced and supplied across Saudi Arabia

The cure chemistry decides where a silicone can be used, and getting it wrong produces failures that appear weeks later. An acetoxy silicone releases acetic acid as it cures — the vinegar smell — and that acid attacks some metals, including copper and brass and unprotected mild steel, and it is unsuitable against alkaline substrates such as fresh concrete and cement render, where it fails to adhere. A neutral cure silicone releases something far less aggressive and is the correct choice on masonry, on metals and near electronics. Beyond chemistry, a joint sealant is specified by how much the joint moves: a movement capability figure describes the percentage of joint width the cured bead can accommodate, and a sealant used in a joint that moves more than it can handle tears away from one face. In this climate the daily thermal cycle on an external facade makes that a real number rather than a theoretical one.

What to state in your enquiry

The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.

Joint width and depthWith the movement, this sizes the bead and any backer rod
Joint movementExpected movement as a percentage of joint width
LocationInternal, external facade, wet area, or a glazing joint
Temperature rangeService range, and the surface temperature at application
Ultraviolet exposureExternal joints in Gulf sun need a UV-stable grade
