Sourced and supplied across Saudi Arabia
Two ordering traps sit in front of this product and both are avoidable. The first is that stainless is supplied as pipe and as tube, and they are dimensioned differently — pipe follows the nominal size and schedule system, tube is specified by actual outside diameter and wall, and fittings for one do not fit the other. Say which you mean. The second is the grade, and in the Eastern Province it is not a preference. 304 is the general-purpose austenitic grade and it pits in chloride: coastal air, seawater, brine and many process streams will attack it, and the pitting starts in crevices under gaskets and deposits where nobody looks. 316 with its molybdenum addition resists it far better and is the honest default here, with duplex grades where the chloride and the stress are higher still. Then say how it will be joined and finished, because welded stainless needs pickling and passivation to restore the surface, and heat tint left in place corrodes.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
| Pipe or tube | Nominal size and schedule, or outside diameter and wall |
|---|---|
| Grade | 304, 316 or 316L, or a duplex grade for higher chloride and stress |
| Chloride exposure | Coastal air, seawater or brine — it usually rules out 304 |
| Specification | The material specification the line class names |
| Size and wall | With the tolerance class if fit-up depends on it |
| Surface finish | Mill finish, polished, or an internal finish for hygienic service |
| Jointing method | Welded, compression, or a hygienic clamp fitting |
| Pickling and passivation | Required after welding — heat tint left in place corrodes |
| End preparation | Plain, bevelled, or with a hygienic ferrule |
| Segregation | Stainless must not be handled with carbon steel tooling or slings |
| Certification | Certificate type, heat traceability and the marking required |
| Quantity and programme | Metres, with the required on-site date |
