A fabricated column is a made item rather than a stock section, so this is a fabrication enquiry and it needs drawings. What drives the price is almost never the steel: it is the connections. Base plates with their stiffeners and holding down bolt arrangement, cap plates, splice details, beam connection cleats and any moment connection are all cutting, drilling, welding and inspection, and a column with a heavily stiffened base costs a multiple of a plain one of the same weight. Send the fabrication drawings and the connection details, and state the weld inspection required, because non-destructive testing on full penetration welds is a real line item. Two site questions decide the rest. The piece has to be liftable and transportable, which sets where splices go. And the coating has to be applied where the shop can do it properly, with a documented system for the corrosivity category rather than a coat of primer and a hope.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
