Sourced and supplied across Saudi Arabia
The starting method is chosen against two things at once β what the driven machine will tolerate mechanically, and what the supply will tolerate electrically. Direct on line is the simplest and cheapest and draws several times full load current for the duration of the start, which is fine on a stiff supply and a robust load, and is exactly what trips the incomer or dips the lights on a weak one. Star-delta halves the inrush at the cost of a torque dip during transition, which suits an unloaded fan and can stall a loaded conveyor. A soft starter ramps voltage and is kind to belts, couplings and water hammer in a pump line. The other half of the specification is protection: the overload must be set to the motor's full load current and its trip class chosen for how long the machine takes to reach speed, since a class 10 device on a high-inertia fan trips during a perfectly normal start.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
| Motor rating | kW, full load current, voltage and speed from the nameplate |
|---|---|
| Driven machine | Pump, fan, conveyor, compressor β and whether it starts loaded |
| Starting method | Direct on line, star-delta, soft starter, or autotransformer |
| Supply strength | State if inrush must be limited to protect the supply |
| Run-up time | Time to reach speed β it sets the overload trip class |
| Overload trip class | Class 10 for ordinary starts, 20 or 30 for long run-up |
| Starts per hour | Duty affects contactor and starter sizing |
| Reversing | State if the motor must run in both directions |
| Enclosure and IP rating | Panel-built, or a standalone enclosed starter |
| Panel ambient | Temperature inside the enclosure, not the room |
| Control | Local pushbuttons, remote start, or a fieldbus command |
| Isolation | State if a local isolator and lockout facility is required |
| Quantity | Starters per rating, and the motors they serve |
