A replacement motor has to fit the hole as well as drive the load, and the frame size is what makes that true. IEC frame designations fix the shaft height, the mounting centres and the shaft diameter, so a motor of the right power in the wrong frame means new baseplate drilling and a coupling change. The second thing to state is the mounting arrangement — foot, flange or face — because those are not interchangeable either. Then the electrical side, where two Saudi-specific points come up repeatedly. A motor built for 50 Hz and run at 60 Hz turns about twenty percent faster, which changes the duty of any pump or fan it drives, so the nameplate frequency matters as much as the voltage. And the rating on the plate assumes an ambient the site may exceed, so state the real ambient and the altitude. If the motor will be fed from a drive, say so: inverter duty is a different insulation specification.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
| Rated power and speed | kW and rated RPM, or the pole count |
|---|---|
| Voltage and frequency | Supply is 230/400 V at 60 Hz — a 50 Hz motor will run faster |
| Frame size | IEC frame — fixes shaft height, mounting centres and shaft diameter |
| Mounting | Foot, flange or face mounted, and the mounting designation |
| Driven load | Pump, fan, conveyor, compressor, and its starting torque |
| Duty cycle | Continuous, intermittent, or frequent starting |
| Site ambient and altitude | Both derate the nameplate rating |
| Enclosure and IP rating | Totally enclosed fan cooled is usual; state washdown exposure |
| Efficiency class | State the class your specification or utility requires |
| Inverter duty | Required if fed from a VFD — a different insulation specification |
| Hazardous area | State the zone, gas group and temperature class if applicable |
| Accessories | Space heaters, thermistors, encoder, or forced ventilation |
| Terminal box position | Often constrained by the existing cable route |
