In the Eastern Province the coil in an air handling unit is doing two jobs and the second one usually dominates. Cooling the air is straightforward; removing the moisture from it is not, and outdoor air drawn in on a humid coastal day carries a latent load that can exceed the sensible load it arrives with. A unit selected on total capacity alone can hit its temperature setpoint while leaving the space damp, which is felt as discomfort and shows up later as mould and corrosion — so the coil is selected against sensible and latent duties separately, from the outdoor design condition and the fresh air quantity. Fresh air is the other half of the specification, because it is where nearly all of that moisture enters. Then the mechanical detail: filtration stages, the fan and its motor, the casing thermal performance, and access, since a unit that cannot be opened to change a filter will not have its filter changed.
