This is cooling for equipment rather than for people, and the difference matters because the load is constant, the tolerance is narrower and nobody is there to notice when it stops. A switchroom, a control room, a battery room or an electrical panel generates a steady heat load that does not follow the sun or the working day, so the unit runs continuously and is sized from the equipment dissipation plus the fabric gain rather than from an occupancy calculation. Two consequences follow. Redundancy is usually justified, because the equipment being cooled is generally the equipment that stops production, and a single unit means a single failure; a pair sharing the load with automatic changeover is the common answer. And filtration and sealing matter more than comfort cooling — dust drawn into a panel or a switchroom is a problem in its own right, which is why closed-circuit panel coolers exist that cool without exchanging any air with the outside.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
| Space or equipment cooled | Switchroom, control room, battery room, or an individual panel |
|---|---|
| Heat load | Equipment dissipation in watts, plus fabric gain |
| Temperature to be held | And the tolerance the equipment allows |
| Continuous duty | The load does not follow the working day |
| Redundancy | Duty-standby with automatic changeover, or a single unit |
| Air exchange | Closed circuit where dust must not enter the space or the panel |
| Filtration and sealing | Dust ingress is a separate problem from temperature |
| Design ambient | Compare capacity at the site condition, not at catalogue conditions |
| Unit type | Split, packaged, wall-mount panel cooler, or a container unit |
| Electrical supply | Voltage and phases at 60 Hz available at the position |
| Alarms | High temperature and unit failure signalled to a manned location |
| Hazardous area | State the zone if the unit serves a classified area |
| Condensate | Drainage or a pump, and where it discharges |
