This is the building services end of cooling — the split and packaged systems that condition offices, villas, accommodation blocks, clinics and site cabins, together with the fresh air supply and extract that go with them. Two things decide whether an installation performs. The first is the design outdoor temperature the equipment is rated against: catalogue capacities are quoted at test conditions well below a Gulf summer afternoon, and a unit selected on its headline figure delivers noticeably less when it is most needed, so the capacity to compare is the one at the site design condition. The second is fresh air. A sealed, well-insulated room with a split unit recirculating the same air stays cool and gets stale, and the ventilation rate for the occupancy is a separate calculation from the cooling load. Say what the space is, how many people use it, what the design outdoor condition is, and whether ducted distribution is possible.
