Fittings are where an installation actually leaks, and two decisions prevent most of it. The first is the alloy. Ordinary brass loses zinc in aggressive, chlorinated or high-chloride water, and the fitting slowly turns porous and pink until it weeps or splits — dezincification-resistant brass exists for exactly this, and in a region where much of the supply is desalinated and treated it is worth specifying rather than accepting whatever arrives. The second is what happens where two different metals meet. A copper line joined directly to a galvanised or ferrous fitting sets up a galvanic cell and corrodes the less noble side, so those junctions need a dielectric union or a deliberate material transition. Beyond that the enquiry is straightforward: state the pipe material and dimension system, the jointing method, and the sizes and quantities as a schedule, because a mixed order of fifty fittings is priced faster than fifty separate lines.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
| Pipe material | Copper, PVC, CPVC, PPR, PEX or steel — fittings follow the pipe |
|---|---|
| Dimension system | Copper tube size, iron pipe size, or metric |
| Jointing method | Solder, press, compression, threaded, push-fit or solvent weld |
| Alloy | State if dezincification-resistant brass is required |
| Water chemistry | Chloride and treatment level — it decides the alloy |
| Dissimilar metal junctions | Where a dielectric union or transition is needed |
| Pressure and temperature | Working conditions at the fitting |
| Potable approval | State if potable water approval is required |
| Fitting schedule | Types, sizes and quantities as one list, not separate lines |
| Valves included | Isolating and service valves to order alongside |
| Consumables | Solder, flux, cement, jointing compound and tape |
| Finish | State if chrome or another visible finish is required |
