Nothing here can be selected without a water analysis, and that is the single most useful thing to send with an enquiry. A treatment train is assembled backwards from the quality the process needs, and each stage exists to protect the next one: sediment filtration takes the load off the carbon, carbon protects a reverse osmosis membrane from the chlorine that would destroy it, and softening or antiscalant dosing keeps hardness from precipitating on the membrane surface. In this region the feed is usually hard and high in dissolved solids, which does two things — it makes RO the workhorse for anything demanding, and it makes recovery rate a real design decision, because the higher the fraction of feed you turn into product, the more concentrated the reject becomes and the faster the membranes scale. Say what the treated water is for, what the source is, and what happens to the reject stream, because reject disposal is often the harder half of the problem.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
| Feed water analysis | TDS, hardness, chloride, silica, iron, turbidity, and chlorine |
|---|---|
| Feed source | Municipal, borehole, tanker, brackish or seawater |
| Required product quality | What the treated water must achieve, and for what use |
| Product flow | Required treated flow, and the daily volume |
| Recovery rate | Product as a fraction of feed — it drives scaling and reject volume |
| Reject disposal | Where the concentrate goes — often the harder half of the problem |
| Treatment stages | Sediment, carbon, softener, antiscalant dosing, RO, UV, remineralisation |
| Pretreatment | Chlorine must be removed before an RO membrane |
| Storage and repressurisation | Product tank volume and the delivery pressure needed |
| Potable approval | State if potable approval is required on wetted components |
| Skid or loose supply | Packaged skid, or components for site assembly |
| Consumables | Cartridge, media and membrane replacement interval and supply |
| Control and monitoring | Conductivity monitoring, alarms and any remote reporting |
