Flame-resistant is a property of the garment as built, not a coating that can be renewed, and the two standards in play answer different questions. NFPA 2112 addresses short-duration flash fire and sets minimum requirements for the fabric and for a garment made from it. EN ISO 11612 covers a wider set of thermal hazards and marks the garment with code letters and levels, so a buyer picks the letters matching the hazard rather than accepting a general FR claim. The mistake that undoes both: a non-FR undergarment worn beneath, which can melt regardless of the outer layer.
