Welding garments are covered by their own standard, EN ISO 11611, and it splits protection into two classes by how much spatter and radiant heat the process throws. Class 1 addresses less hazardous techniques, class 2 the more severe ones, and the fabric test that separates them is the number of molten metal drops the material withstands — fifteen for class 1, twenty-five for class 2. The standard also gives limited protection against brief accidental contact with live conductors at low voltage. Say which process is being welded; the class follows from it rather than from garment appearance.
