Abrasive selection is a question about the workpiece, not about the tool. Aluminium oxide is the general-purpose grain for carbon steel; zirconia lasts longer on heavy stock removal; ceramic grain cuts cooler and is what keeps a stainless surface from blueing, which matters because heat tint is a real corrosion problem rather than a cosmetic one. Anything used on stainless should also be free of iron, sulphur and chlorine, since contamination from a disc previously used on carbon steel will rust on a stainless surface and be blamed on the material. For surface preparation before coating, the specification is not the abrasive at all — it is the cleanliness grade and the profile the coating system requires, with grades such as Sa 2½ under ISO 8501-1 doing the specifying, and the media chosen to achieve them. State the material, the operation and the finish required, and the media follows.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
