This is the wire, gas and wearing parts side of the shop, and the item that causes the most unexplained trouble is the shielding gas mixture. Wire and gas work as a pair: pure argon on carbon steel gives a poor, unstable arc, an argon and carbon dioxide mix is the general answer for steel, and stainless and aluminium each want something different again. Substituting the gas that happens to be on the rack because the right cylinder has run out produces porosity and spatter that get blamed on the wire. The wearing parts matter more than their price suggests too. A contact tip worn oval, or a liner that does not match the wire diameter, produces feeding faults that look exactly like a machine problem — which is why a sensible order carries tips, liners and nozzles as standing stock rather than as an afterthought. State the process, the wire classification, the diameter and the gas, and give an annual volume.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.

| Gas supply | Cylinders, packs, or bulk, and the regulator fittings in use |
| TIG filler and tungsten | Filler rod classification, tungsten type and diameter |
| Contact tips and nozzles | Sized to the wire, held as standing stock |
| Liners | Matched to the wire diameter and the torch length |
