A confined space entry kit is bought as a system, not as parts, because the components must be rated to work together — the tripod, the retrieval winch, the fall arrest block, the harness and the connectors all share one load path. The single most common gap is buying entry equipment with no means of retrieving an unconscious worker, which turns a rescue into a second entry. State the opening dimensions and the depth, since those decide tripod leg spread and cable length.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
| Opening type and size | Manhole, vessel hatch, pit; state clear diameter |
|---|---|
| Depth | Decides winch cable and SRL length |
| Tripod or davit | Tripod for vertical openings, davit arm for offset or side entry |
| Retrieval winch | Man-riding rated, with capacity and cable length |
| Fall arrest block | Retrieval type SRL so a casualty can be raised |
| Harness | Confined space harness with shoulder attachment points |
| Gas detection | State if a multi-gas detector and sampling pump are needed |
| Communication | State if intrinsically safe radios are required |
| Number of entrants | Decides how many harness and block sets |
