The tripod is the anchor above a vertical opening, and it is rated as a system with whatever is hung from it. Leg spread has to clear the opening while staying inside the available floor space, and adjustable legs matter on uneven ground where a fixed tripod cannot be levelled. Where a winch and a fall arrest block are both mounted, the tripod head must accept two devices and the pulleys must route both lines without fouling.
