A manometer measures a difference, and usually a very small one β the pressure drop across a filter bank, the static pressure in a duct, the few pascals that keep a clean room or a battery room positive against the corridor next door. That is a different instrument problem from process pressure, because the quantity being measured may be a thousandth of the line pressure it sits on. Two numbers therefore matter more than anything else: the differential range, stated in the units the site works in β pascals, millibar, millimetres of water gauge or inches β and the static line pressure the body must withstand while resolving that tiny difference. After that the choice is mechanical or digital. An inclined or U-tube instrument needs no power and drifts very little; a digital manometer resolves better, logs, and can drive an alarm when a filter loads up. Say which reading is acted on and by whom.
The more of this you send, the closer the first quotation lands.
| Differential range | The small difference to be read, with the units used on site |
|---|---|
| Static line pressure | What the body sees while resolving the differential |
| Units | Pascals, millibar, mm water gauge, or inches water gauge |
| Application | Filter drop, duct static, room pressurisation, or gas train |
| Instrument type | U-tube, inclined, magnehelic-style dial, or digital |
| Resolution and accuracy | What the reading is used to decide |
| Medium | Air, inert gas, or a fluid that limits the wetted materials |
| Connections | High and low ports, tube size, and the sensing line material |
| Mounting | Panel cut-out, wall, or handheld for survey work |
| Output and alarm | Analogue signal, switch contact, or logging for a digital unit |
| Power | None for mechanical, or battery or loop power for digital |
| Calibration | State if a traceable calibration certificate is required |
