Impact energy, measured in joules, is the number that describes what a rotary hammer will actually do in concrete — not the motor wattage, which is what catalogues lead with and which tells you very little. A tool with a high wattage and low impact energy drills slowly and gets hot; one with the right impact energy for the hole size does the job in a fraction of the time. Match the energy to the largest hole and the depth, then check the chuck system, since bit shanks are not interchangeable between the light and heavy systems.
