Needle valves give fine flow regulation and reliable isolation on small-bore instrument and sampling lines, where a quarter-turn valve would be too coarse and a large valve simply unnecessary. They are usually bought as part of an instrument hook-up alongside manifolds and tube fittings, so the connection type must match the tubing already installed — a compression fitting sized for imperial tube will not accept metric.
